Industrial Transport Packaging Review | PackCube CPS™
Corrugated Packaging for Robotics & Automation Equipment
Planning to ship a robot or automation equipment? Start with a packaging review based on the exact product configuration, dimensions, weight and transport route. PackCube develops corrugated-paper packaging concepts for project-specific review, sampling and validation.
Proposed Packaging Approach
For European and US projects, our default proposal uses corrugated paper for the outer packaging and internal protective components. Board grade, geometry and support layout are selected after reviewing the equipment and shipment requirements. Suitability must be established for the specific project.
- A corrugated outer box sized for the delivered equipment configuration.
- Proposed corrugated supports and dividers based on documented contact areas and handling requirements.
- Separate compartments for controllers, tooling, cables and loose accessories where appropriate.
- A package layout reviewed for packing, unpacking and the intended logistics conditions.
What the Review Covers
The review considers product protection, packing workflow, material use and total packaging cost. Performance and savings are evaluated for each project against its agreed baseline and acceptance criteria.
From Requirements to Validation
- Confirm the robot model, supplied configuration and manufacturer's transport instructions.
- Record product dimensions, mass, permitted support interfaces and transport conditions.
- Develop a corrugated packaging concept and agree the sample scope.
- Agree appropriate checks, which may include compression, vibration, impact and environmental conditioning, based on the shipment risks.
- Review sample and test results against the agreed criteria before approving the package for its intended shipment.
The validation plan and evidence apply to the specific configuration reviewed. Test requirements and results are confirmed during the project.
Prepare a clear robot transport packaging brief
An initial packaging review starts with the exact robot model, delivered configuration and transport instructions. The manipulator, controller, pendant, gripper and loose accessories may have different handling and protection requirements. Identify them separately before choosing a package layout.
A lifting interface is not automatically an approved transport restraint point. Confirm the intended use of each interface against the applicable manufacturer's instructions; where the instructions do not cover the proposed use, request technical confirmation.
Information to prepare
- Robot model, configuration and applicable manual revision.
- Product dimensions and packed dimensions, labelled separately as L × W × H with units.
- Equipment mass and total packed mass, each identified in kg.
- Manufacturer-documented transport posture, permitted support or restraint interfaces, and any handling restrictions.
- Controller, tooling, cables and accessory list, including items travelling separately.
- Origin, destination, transport mode and expected loading/unloading conditions.
- Required checks, acceptance criteria and the person responsible for technical review.
If a measurement, center of gravity or permitted interface is unknown, mark it as unknown. A photo, initial discussion or generic packaging example does not establish a shipment-specific restraint design or transport approval.
Read our robot transport engineering note for the distinction between handling, base attachment and shipment restraint.
Frequently asked questions
Which dimensions should I provide?
State whether each measurement describes the robot or the packed shipment. Include length, width, height and the measurement unit, such as mm, cm or in.
Can the same package be used for another robot model?
Do not assume so. Configuration, mass, transport posture and permitted interfaces need to be reviewed for that model.
Does submitting the form confirm a packaging design?
No. The form starts a requirements discussion. A proposal needs the relevant specifications, transport conditions and agreed verification requirements.
Request a Packaging Review
Use the Engineering Requirements Form on this page for initial contact. Include your product or packed dimensions with units and the weight range if known. Robot-specific documents and additional transport details can be discussed during follow-up.
